The Best Ways to Store Your Dentures When They Are Not in Use?
Posted on 6/7/2021 by Dr. Frank Sallustio
If you are dealing with lost or missing teeth, you can get dentures to restore your teeth functions. Unlike natural teeth, you will need to remove your dentures at night when going to bed and store them properly to prevent damage. Poorly maintained dentures will cause oral issues such as bad breath and gum disease. To store your dentures, soak them in clean water or a denture cleaning solution.
Store in Clean Water
Dentures need moisture to prevent drying. Dryness causes dentures to lose their natural shape and warp, affecting their fit. A poorly fitting denture will cause pain and discomfort when you wear them. Therefore, you should store your dentures under moisture by soaking them in a glass of clean water. You can also soak it in a damp cloth if you do not have access to clean water. The water should be lukewarm or cold, as hot water can permanently damage your dentures.
Store in a Denture Cleaning Solution
Besides keeping your denture moist, storing your dentures in a denture cleaning solution will reduce the accumulation of bacteria on your dentures and prevent bad breath. When using a denture cleaning solution to store your dentures, ensure you follow all the instructions. If you need to dissolve tablets in water to create the solution, ensure you use clean, cold, or lukewarm water.
You should also rinse your dentures before putting them in your mouth if you store them in a cleaning solution, as the chemicals in the solution can cause burns and vomiting if ingested. Finally, remember to keep your mouth clean by brushing your teeth and cleaning your gums after removing your dentures before placing them back. You should also put the container where you have soaked your dentures in a safe space to prevent them from falling and breaking. For more details on denture storage, contact our office today.
