Are There any Whitening Options That Help Dentures?
Posted on 6/22/2020 by Dr. Frank Sallustio
Are There any Whitening Options That Help Dentures?Caring for your dentures properly means that you're cleaning them daily. However, you will want to whiten your dentures from time to time, because over time, they will become stained with wear and usage, just like our natural teeth.

There are, however, several options to help you keep your dentures as white as you can.
Hydrogen peroxide is a great whitening agent and can be purchased at almost any local store. All you have to do is simply take your dentures out and coat them with the peroxide and then brush the denture softly with a soft bristled toothbrush and this should remove any stains.

Whitening Options for Dentures

There are specialized bleaching compounds made just for dentures and again, most of those can be purchased at local stores or supermarkets. Simply mix a teaspoon of the bleaching compound with a glass of water and soak your dentures for approximately 20 minutes; taking them out and gently brushing with a soft bristled brush. When purchasing these bleaching compounds be sure to purchase ADA approved only, as they have already been tested.

Common baking soda is another option to keep your dentures look white and stain free, and most already have it on hand in their kitchen. As a side benefit to the baking soda, it can also be used to remove any odors in your dentures. Simply mix the baking soda with equal parts of water and use a soft bristled toothbrush to clean the dentures. Another product you most likely have in your kitchen is white vinegar. The vinegar is a natural sanitizer that will clean, and it also kills any buildup of bacteria in the dentures. To remove stains, simply soak dentures in the white vinegar overnight and clean them with a soft bristled toothbrush in the morning.
