![]() Part of your regular denture care routine should be soaking them at night in a solution specially designed for the task. Still, many denture users wonder whether soaking the dentures is enough to actually get them clean. If this is you, read on. Soaking Your Dentures Helps Keep Them Clean…Your dentures are crafted from a specialized dental material. Frequently some sort of acrylic is used, at least for the biting surfaces. While it may appear to you that the acrylic is a solid piece, there are actually hundreds and hundreds of tiny holes in the material. While these pores are typically too small for food to get into, bacteria have no problem getting into them. And, even though you may brush your dentures thoroughly, the bristles of your brush are far too large to get into the pores and clean them out. Because of this, you need to soak your dentures in a solution designed to help kill the bacteria. Not only will this keep your dentures soft and pliable, it will also help to combat bad breath and staining that can arise from excessive bacterial levels in your mouth. …But Soaking Your Dentures is Not EnoughOf course, soaking your dentures helps, but you need to be sure to actually brush them every day. Use a good denture toothbrush along with the proper cleaning solution. Brush the dentures much the same way you would your teeth. This brushing, combined with soaking, will help keep your dentures clean and serviceable. This regular maintenance will pay off in spades: by keeping up with it, you will extend the life of your dentures and help keep them looking good. |
